Yesterday's shenanigans took a small toll on my schedule and myself, but I managed to hit the road around 10:30AM. It started off quite nice (despite the <insert number> drinks and <insert much smaller number> hours of sleep last night) with some smooth hills and decent weather.

I stopped at a gas station to fill up with energy bars and hit a quick toilet break after about 15km. When I came back out, the weather gods had decided to take a leak and the next 52km to Sarpsborg was one long wakeboard session with on/off rain and headwinds. Poor Lola Longboard looked like a wet dog and frankly speaking I wasn't looking much different. We probably both smelled like wet dogs too..

Except for the 10 minute breaks I throw in roughly every 20km my first real break was in Sarpsborg, where I decided to chow down on some slices at Dolly Dimples. I don't consider myself a fan of fast or greasy foods, but damn, garlic dressing tastes goooooood after 67km on the skateboard!
My legs were also totally broken after this session, so I had to scare some kids away from the playroom so that I could use the soft mats there to do some stretching. After about 2 hours I left the comforts of Dolly. The rain had stopped but it remained very wet for the next two-three hours. I was about to give up on reaching Sweden today, but eventually I gained some speed and decided to go for it. With the headlights on I passed the bridge that connects Norway and Sweden around 9:30PM in what was about to be pitch dark.

Once in Sweden I checked into a motel at Nordby Shopping Mall where the lady in the reception, after hearing about my hopeless mission (people tend to ask what's wrong with me as I look pretty abnormal when I enter places with a longboard, a Norwegian flag sticking out of my backpack and sweating like a hog), shaved a few % off the bill and gave me a complimentary dinner and a light beer for me to enjoy in my room before I passed out. You know, it's the little things... +115km.
Bon nuit,
theie
